‘My greatest fear is that we have all of this momentum and it dies for lack of a follow-up,’ Schultz said before making the motion to establish the subcommittee.

The joint subcommittee will meet quarterly and consist of the mayor and vice mayor of the city of Burbank, the city manager as well as the school board president and vice president and the school district’s superintendent.

On May 30, 2022, Councilmember Nick Schultz joined Mayor Jess Talamantes, Councilmember Bob Frutos, and Councilmember Sharon Springer for the City of Burbank’s festivities commemorating Memorial Day.

Schultz has a young daughter and a baby on the way. Burbank will be their hometown, so while the council member is listening to all sides of this ongoing debate, his most important constituents are his kids.

’I do not want them to grow up in a world where active shooter training and mass shootings are common,’ he said. ‘They don’t deserve that. We all collectively deserve better.’

On Tuesday, May 3, 2022, several residents met on the steps of City Hall in a peaceful protest of the release of a draft by the Supreme Court that may override the long-standing Roe v. Wade decision.

Councilman Nick Schultz led the push to revise the plan, saying that he was disappointed with the consultant group the city hired to help draft it.

’I don’t think this plan is complete, and I don’t think it’s ready to be approved,’ he said. ‘This is our guiding document to tackle an increasingly growing problem in our community and in the region,’ Schultz added. ‘Specifics matter, details matter, accountability to the public matters.’

Hey Burbank! Episode 5 -November 22, 2021

Community members for years have expressed concerns about speeding on Glenoaks, saying that the line of green traffic signals at night encourages drivers to use the street as a racetrack — a notion to which Councilman Nick Schultz alluded during the meeting.

“’We need to talk about redesigning our streets, and I think we all know that,’ he said, ‘but when you have these long stretches of streets where people hit green light after green light, it almost begs folks to be going faster than the posted speed limit there.’

The City Council hosted a festive event for the mayor’s tree lighting ceremony at Burbank City Hall on Saturday, Dec. 4. Councilman Nick Schultz, Mrs. Claus, Vice Mayor Jess Talamantes, Mayor Bob Frutos, Councilwoman Sharon Springer, Councilman Konstantine Anthony and Santa himself attended the event, which included musical and dance performances.

“Councilman Nick Schultz advocated for a stricter policy, saying he was worried that the testing requirement might not catch pre-symptomatic infections, and pointing out that it doesn’t include contract workers.

’It offers a false sense of security,’ he said. ‘What we really need to do is to require our city employees and especially our first responders to be vaccinated. Anything short of that requirement fails to adequately protect our community, in my humble opinion.’”

“Schultz nominated Tallyrand for the honor after Ross visited a recent Noon Rotary Club of Burbank meeting and detailed the struggles the restaurant has overcome since the onset of COVID-19. This included shifting to a four-hour workday takeout menu plan during the height of the pandemic, consequently being forced to lay off employees, and implementing new features, such as live outdoor music on weekends, in an effort to keep the business alive.”-https://myburbank.com/assemblymember-laura-friedman-names-burbanks-tallyrand-restaurant-as-43rd-district-small-business-of-the-year-2021/

As a candidate, I advocated for the creation of a Burbank Economic Recovery Taskforce. Last month, the City Council voted unanimously to re-purpose one of our existing sub-committees and create an Economic Recovery Sub-Committee comprised of Vice Mayor Talamantes, Councilmember Springer, and city staff. Earlier this week, the Sub-Committee hosted their first community meeting with restaurant owners and operators.

[It] will work over the following months to ensure that we adopt comprehensive economic recovery plans for Burbank that balance the protection of employees and the public, with the continued economic livelihood of our community

“Schultz also asked city staff members to look into the possibility of an emergency ordinance that would cap third-party delivery services’ fees on local restaurants. Some cities have pursued such a measure to help eateries retain profits when using delivery apps such as Grubhub and Uber Eats.”

2021 Goal Setting Meeting - Burbank City Council - January 27, 2021

Happy New Year Burbank! I know it goes without saying, but 2020 was a very difficult year for our community. However, today we have awoken to a bright new day. A new year brings with it a fresh start and new opportunities. While we will continue to face many of the same challenges that were before our community last year, I believe that a new year requires new priorities from our local government to address these issues. Moreover, I am optimistic that 2021 will be a successful year for our great city.
