DEPUTY ATTORNEY GENERAL

Nick Schultz has spent his entire professional career in public service where he has worked to protect the public from various threats. Nick currently serves as a Deputy Attorney General* with the Fraud and Special Prosecutions Section of the Attorney General’s Office with the California Department of Justice. In this role, Nick works with state and federal law enforcement officials to investigate and prosecute criminal cases primarily related to financial/corporate fraud, public corruption, and human trafficking.

Nick is currently assigned to a high-profile case in Los Angeles County Superior Court in which the leader of an international religious organization headquartered in Mexico is accused of committing crimes of human trafficking, production of child pornography, forcible rape of a minor, and other felonies over a period of approximately four years.

Nick has also led criminal investigations into the origin and cause of two of Southern California’s largest wildland fires in history.  Nick has worked closely with fire fighters, arson investigators, and experts to investigate the source of these damaging and destructive wildfires.

As a Deputy Attorney General, Nick has investigated and prosecuted several cases involving crimes of conspiracy, grand theft, receipt of stolen property, perjury, tax evasion and mortgage fraud.  He has worked closely with local, state, and federal law enforcement officials.

NEIGHBOR

Nick is the first college graduate from a working-class family who was largely raised by a single mother who worked to give his brother and him every available opportunity to succeed.  From an early age, he decided to dedicate his life to public service by doing what he can to help others to gain access to those same opportunities.

Nick graduated from the Robert D. Clark Honors College at the University of Oregon earning a Bachelor of Arts with majors in both History and Political Science. Immediately thereafter he enrolled at the University of Oregon School of Law where he graduated earning a Juris Doctor.

He has a passion for history, learning, and participating in community service projects.

Nick and his wife Allie, an attorney in the entertainment industry, reside in the historic Rancho neighborhood of Burbank with their daughter, Ella, and their two cats, Liam and Lily.

ADVOCATE

Outside of work, Nick is a proud member of the California Attorneys, Administrative Law Judges, and Hearings Officers in State Employment (CASE) union. Nick previously served as Vice-President of the Central Area Planning Commission, which is responsible for conducting public hearings for city planning and land use projects in the City of Los Angeles.

As a college student, Nick was heavily involved in the Zero Waste Program at the University of Oregon.  As a student, he fought to secure funding to replace the program’s gas-powered vehicle with five biodiesel vans. He also helped start a campus-wide composting program that later became a staple at all University of Oregon events. Since graduating from college, he has consistently supported candidates that share his commitment to making our world a better place through direct donations and volunteering.

Nick currently serves in leadership roles with several local and regional Democratic Party organizations. Nick is the First Vice Chair for the Democratic Party of the San Fernando Valley, an alternate member of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party, and a delegate to the California Democratic Party.
