GOVERNMENT TRANSPARENCY

A healthy democracy requires that the government fulfill its obligation to share information with citizens so that our elected officials are held accountable for how they conduct the people’s business. It’s of paramount importance that every Burbankian be confident and trust the integrity of city government processes, from contracts to land use decisions. It’s also important that we reduce the extreme financial barriers to running for local elected office. As a member of the Burbank City Council I would always remember that I work for the people, and not special interests. As your elected representative I would:

  • Conduct monthly meetings and townhall events away from City Hall so that I can continue to be available and responsive to the concerns of my constituents.

  • Fight for a matching funds system whereby the City of Burbank will match the contributions raised by individuals running for office.

  • Advocate for a citizens’ Ethics Commission to serve as a source of advice on policy implementation with regards to ethics laws and regulations, as well as to help investigate any violations of the city’s ethics rules.

  • Work to increase the diversity of representation on the Burbank City Council, city staff, and city commissions.

  • Ensure that the City of Burbank is timely and responsive to all California Public Records Act requests made by the members of the public.

At a time when public trust and confidence is at an all-time low, it is crucial that our leaders reflect our values and commit to representing the people over special interests.  I also firmly believe that the way you run a campaign reflects how you will lead a community, if elected. To that end, I will not accept contributions from corporations, the fossil fuel industry, police unions, the pharmaceutical industry, or defense industry contractors.
